What the programme provided

2013 – 2020

MSRI’s clients often had complex and challenging physical and mental health needs requiring multiple consultations across a broad range of disciplines.

Primary healthcare services ran Monday to Friday, according to the availability of a full-time physician and supporting volunteer physicians and nurses. Mental health and psychosocial support was provided by four certified counsellors, who were paired with trained translators.

  • Medical checks and doctor consultations
  • Referrals to hospitals and specialists
  • Subsidised medications
  • Emergency medical funds and support
  • Basic mental health and counselling
  • Additional services such as physiotherapy, yoga and meditation

Interpretation and referral

Refugee interpreters fluent in Farsi, Arabic, Somali and English made the healthcare services possible.

The programme also provided social, livelihood and legal referrals.
